With the first successful bypass surgery at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Satellite Centre, Tando Muhammad Khan became the 4th city to have such facility in Sindh province. In this regard, the cardiac surgeons and NICVD administration announced the first successful bypass surgery performed at NICVD TMK on Saturday.
On this occasion, a Paediatric Cardiology Ward was also inaugurated by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Syed Naveed Qamar. He vowed that NICVD Satellite Centre would be transformed into one of the best cardiac hospitals in the country. He said this facility would provide cardiac treatment services to people of Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar and adjoining areas, as well.
Executive Director NICVD Prof Nadeem Qamar, Chief of Surgery Fazl-e-Rabbi, Prof Khawar Kazmi, Head of Anaesthesia NICVD Prof Amin Khuwaja, Prof Najma Patel, local MPAs and PPP leaders also accompanied Naveed Qamar during his visit to different wards and sections of the cardiac hospital.
The senior PPP leader termed availability of open heart surgery and paediatric cardiac ward a good omen for residents of Tando Muhammad Khan and adjoining areas. He said people of this area could not even travel to Karachi for treatment of cardiac ailments but now they could avail state of the art cardiac treatment closer to their abodes.
Naveed Qamar vowed to also bring other health facilities at par with NICVD in Tando Muhammad Khan. In Sindh, around 30,000 to 40,000 children are born with congenital heart disease or with defective hearts at the time of birth, but only a few hundred of them are diagnosed and get treated while thousands remain undiagnosed due to non-availability of heart health facilities in their area. In particular, from Tando Muhammad Khan to Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar and adjoining areas, thousands of children are born with congenital heart disease but they remain undiagnosed throughout their life and eventually die without treatment.
"Opening of Paediatric Cardiology Ward in Tando Muhammad Khan will help save thousands of children's lives," NICVD Paediatric Cardiology chief Prof Najma Patel said. Prof Nadeem Qamar said it was the 3rd Satellite Centre after Sukkur and Larkana where facility of open heart surgery had been made available.
