Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said that basic changes will be brought in the structure and capable officers will be supported to ensure long-term betterment in the province. He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of Advisory Council on Governance in Punjab on Saturday.
That was attended by provincial ministers and secretaries of 15 departments while former federal finance minister Salman Shah, the planning and development chairman and retired bureaucrats Salman Siddique and Salman Ghani were also present. The Senior Minister said that instead of routine matters they have to go for a 'major surgery' in Punjab as wide-scale reforms are required for which renowned economists will be consulted. He maintained that experience of retired bureaucrats will also be taken to determine the right way for success. "Capable officers will be supported and there will be no pick and choose policy; everyone will be given equal opportunity to prove their ability to work for the change," he added.
He warned that no leniency will be tolerated in the implementation of PM Imran Khan's vision. He said without a strong economy no country can move forward and for this purpose the government has to make strict and non-popular decisions.
Meanwhile, Salman Shah gave a briefing in which he said that in Punjab there are missing links among different departments. He quoted an example of agriculture, irrigation and livestock departments that can work together. "Similarly, sports, youth affairs and tourism should also work with coordinated efforts," he added. He told the meeting that in this connection recommendations are prepared and department wise proposals are ready.
