Governor Sindh Imran Ismail has called upon the higher learning institutions to play pivotal role in producing such leadership which could lead the country in future and make country stronger with rapid socio economic development of the country.
Without education no development can be achieved in any country and there is a need that future generation of the country must be equipped not only with education but also excel in research findings in order to meet the challenges of the modern world, the Governor emphasised.
The Governor Sindh expressed this while delivering his presidential remarks at the 22nd Academic Convocation of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) at its central auditorium of Jamshoro Campus on Monday.
A total of 940 male and female scholars and graduates of main Jamshoro Campus, Khairpur Campus and affiliated colleges received degrees of PhD, ME, M/Phil, Bachelor of Engineering, Architecture and CRP as well as B.Tech in the convocation ceremony.
The Governor Sindh Imran Ismail said education produce such leadership which guides to bring out peaceful solution of any issue therefore, the academia should come forward and produce leaders like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and many others to lead the countrymen in this modern era.
He also underlined the need of promotion of research activities so that the future scholars could find solution of the issues so that the country could be able to compete in all fields of modern world.
He highly praised the efforts of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro adding that the university graduates have been engaged in sharing pool for the development of the country. The Mehran University is playing leading role in other private sector universities of the country and its teachers imparting knowledge to their learners what they acquired from leading universities of the world, he added.
The Vice Chancellor Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro Prof Dr Muhammad Aslam Uqaili in his welcome address highlighted the achievements of the university particularly its research activities for addressing issues of energy, water and environment.
He informed that the university management organised numbers of international conferences on energy, water and environment and the experts prepared effective suggestions and recommendations to the government for implementation.
The Vice Chancellor underlined the need of close coordination between higher learning institutions and the country's institutions in order to find effective solution of the issues being faced by the people of the country.
Later, The Governor Sindh Imran Ismail has underlined the need of consideration of alternate water resources in order to overcome the shortage of water in Sindh.
The situation of water availability in the province is unsatisfactory and the province could face acuter water crisis if it did not receive rainfall, the Governor replied to a question of media after visiting the control room of Sindh Irrigation Department at Kotri Barrage.
He said that construction of small dams in Sindh could avert the present situation but no action was initiated in this regard by the provincial governments, he said and added that water tempering was also one of the key issues in creating water shortage in the province. Except poor peasants, no action was witnessed against influential persons who are involved in water theft, he added.
Responding to another question, the Governor said the federal government is ready to provide funds for completion of K-4 project, the project which was designed at a cost of Rs 25 billion now has reached to Rs 125 billion. About his briefing regarding water situation in Indus River at the control room of Sindh Irrigation Department, the Governor said that whatever information about the availability of water in the river could be the game of statistics as according to reports Sindh is getting its share of water. He expressed his concern over water pollution in Kalari Baghar Feeder and said that he will soon visit Keenjhar Lake to review the situation of water availability. The provincial government should take notice over water pollution in KB Feeder, he added.
