Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) emerged as the top three teams in the local cycling circuit when it earned the silver medal on conclusion of the four-day National Track Cycling Championship 2018 held at the Lahore Cycling Velodrome. The event, held under the aegis of Pakistan Cycling Federation was organized by SSGC. Pakistan Army secured gold while WAPDA had to be contented with a bronze medal.
Apart from the top three winners, the championship featured men and women cyclists from POF Wah, HEC, Islamabad and four provincial teams. The top three teams also dominated the individual and team contests during the four days. In the 3-lap Sprint Finals, Shakeel of SSGC won the gold medal while Arsalan and Zahid of Pakistan Army won silver and bronze medals respectively. Rider Abdul Razzaq of SSGC won the 4-km Men's Individual Pursuit race, successfully reaching the finish line in 5 minutes and 4 seconds.
The 2nd and 3rd spots were secured by Arsalan Anjum of Pakistan Army and Izzat Ullah of WAPDA who lost to the SSGC winner by a difference of one and two seconds respectively. On the other hand, while the 1000 meter Team Sprint finals was won by WAPDA, Pakistan Army and SSGC, respectively, in the 1000-meter Individual Time Trial contest, Arsalan (WAPDA), Izzat Ullah (Pakistan Army) and Shakeel (SSGC) won the first three spots in a closely contested race. The 30-laps Omnium finals was won by Arsalan while Waheed and Razzaq of SSGC secured 2nd and 3rd places.
The event was inaugurated by Amer Tufail, DMD SNGPL. Lt. Colonel Shoaib Ahmed (retd), Secretary SSGC Sports Board and other SSGC officials welcomed the chief guests and riders from across Pakistan. Imran Farookhi, DMD (Corporate Services) SSGC was a chief guest on the 2nd day of the event.-PR
