Progressive Group in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) expressed concern over the federal finance minister's statement about the government intention to present a 'mini-budget' through 'money bill' next month besides imposing or increasing different taxes to bridge gap of over Rs100 billion revenue shortfall.
The Group's leaders including President Khalid Usman, Vice President Arshad Chaudhry, Muhammad Ejaz Tanveer, Abdul Wadood Alvi said that the government had already imposed and increased various taxes. It also failed to arrest the rising trend of the dollar against the rupee, they said.
They said that it had already made working for the traders and businessmen almost impossible and imposing new taxes or increasing the existing one would prove to be the last nail. The government should incentivize the businesses and create an environment conducive to the trade and industry as only this is the only way to create job opportunities besides adding more revenue to the national kitty, they said.
They urged the Prime Minister Imran Khan to consult the genuine leaders of the business community for drafting a unanimous economic policy which could put the country on the path of progress and prosperity.
