Businessmen have demanded of the federal government to make the Azakhel dry port operational and to provide facilities in dry port at Peshawar cantonment. They also urged to launch a special cargo train from Peshawar. The demands were made by Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Mohammad Faiz during a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad at the chamber here.
Leader of United Business Group, Senator Ilyas Bilour, Senior Manager Pakistan Railways Mohammad Aftab Akbar, SCCI senior vice president Engineer Saad Khan Zahid, vice president Haris Mufti, executive body members, former presidents and businessmen were present in the meeting.
SCCI chief urged the government to devise policies to revive economic and trade activities in KP. He further urged to extend relief to terrorism affected business community of the province.
Mohammad Faiz said it is imminent to provide level playing field to revive trade and industrial activities as well as employment. He said that the Pakistan Railways should make functional to give boost to export. He called for revival of safari train for tourists from Peshawar to Landi Kotal and Peshawar to Attock.
Federal Minister Sheikh Rasheed while responding to recommendations of the SCCI president said that the Azakhel dry port has been completed, so if business community is willing to run the dry port under public-private partnership, then Pakistan Railways would issue tender in this regard. The Minister said that feasibility is in progress regarding running a train from Jalalabad to Peshawar. He said Pakistan Railways would extend support for Peshawar circular train.
