Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) former Justice Javed Iqbal has said that fugitives involved in corruption would be brought back to the country through Interpol to face the law. In a statement on Sunday, the chairman NAB said that money looted in 1210 corruption references is Rs 900 billion, adding that so far NAB has succeeded in recovering Rs 297 billion.
He said that accountability court has sentenced Mufti Ehsan for ten years imprisonment, besides imposing fine of Rs 9 billion as the accused was involved in the notorious Mudharba scandal. He said that 34 persons involved in Mudharba scam have been sent behind bars while the rest of the accused have fled country who would be brought back at any cost through Interpol so that justice could prevail.
The chairman NAB said that 179 mega corruption cases will be brought to their logical end, explaining that 105 cases of mega corruption have been reached their logical conclusion. He said that white collar mega corruption cases need complete evidence, witnesses and scientific mechanism and NAB is very much aware of its responsibilities.
He further said that World Economic Forum (WEF) was satisfied with the performance of NAB as Pakistan stood at 107 on the corruption perception index of the WEF. Referring to the survey report compiled by Gallup Pakistan, he said that 59 percent Pakistanis have expressed their confidence in the overall performance of the anti-corruption watchdog.
