Indus Motor Company extends its sincere felicitations on the 85th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Akihito of Japan. We wish His Imperial Majesty and the Imperial Family continued health, happiness and joy.
Indus Motor Company (IMC) was incorporated in 1989 following a joint venture agreement between the House of Habib in Pakistan and Toyota Motor Corporation and Toyota Tsusho Corporation in Japan. it's main product offerings comprise several variants of the flagship 'Corolla' in the passenger cars category, 'Hilux' in the light commercial vehicles segment and the 'Fortuner' in the sports utility vehicle classification.
To transform the automotive landscape under Pakistan's Automotive Development Policy 2016-2021 and to meet the rising demand for vehicles, IMC has invested up to Rs 7 billion on capacity enhancement projects to increase it's production. The Company has 45 dealerships and 46 parts suppliers with whom it has 35 technical assistance agreements. This technical assistance facilitates the transfer of technology to the local part supplies thereby increasing their efficiency and skill.
IMC provides employment to over 4200 employees and has invested over 2 million man hours in their training and development, with the aim of encouraging knowledge transfer, generating job opportunities and contributing to Pakistan's GDP. The Company's culture is built upon the two primary Toyota Values - Continuous Improvement and Respect for People. The continuous improvement philosophy, also known as Kaizen, encourages to set and meet higher standards of quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction. Further, respect for people is a cornerstone of the Toyota way and reinforced throughout the Company.
On the CSR front, IMC has been supporting innumerable social and community initiatives for the last 27 years. It has taken concrete action to realize its social responsibility aims, and has created value for its shareholders and customers.
The Company is an active Signatory of United Nation's Global Compact, hence we are committed to aligning our operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. The Company values its employees and invests in innovative technologies and solutions for sustainable power flow and economic progress.
IMC envisions building more platforms to advance technical skills and developing a cadre of emerging young leaders in Pakistan. To this end, the Toyota Technical Education Program has been established across 4 Institutes in Pakistan. Since beginning of this program in the year 2000, we have invested more than 950,000 man-hours and 4,397 students successfully graduated from this program. This 3-year program offers vocational training to young aspiring individuals, 35% of whom are hired in the Toyota Dealership network. Some of them move on to better opportunities overseas as well.
To go beyond zero environmental impact and achieve a net positive impact, Toyota globally has set itself six challenges. All these challenges, whether in climate change or resource and water recycling are beset with difficulties. However, Toyota is committed to steady initiatives in order to realize sustainable development together with society. As part of this commitment, Toyota has initiated the Green Wave of tree plantations across the globe. IMC has also taken the initiative of planting 1 million trees in Pakistan by 2021 to reduce its carbon footprint.
IMC has initiated a 5S Clean Karachi campaign across 20 locations in Karachi collaborating with the local residents of their neighborhoods. These locations include schools, sports institutes, parks, beaches and even the National Stadium of Karachi after the Pakistan vs West Indies T20 series.
The objective behind these drives is to share the Toyota 5S philosophy, which is a set of 5 basic rules and principles that help an individual keep their space clean and organized. The concept is to bring the people of Karachi together to foster a sense of civic responsibility, ownership and unity and to share a Toyota philosophy that benefits everybody.
