Imran Khan's half-century on 21 balls guided Peshawar Atlan to a comfortable 10 wickets victory against Charsadda King in the final of the first Afghan Refugees Super Cricket League which concluded here at University of Peshawar Campus ground on Thursday.
Commissioner Afghan Refugees in Peshawar Abbas Khan, Director General Afghan Commission-rate Waqar Maroof, Chief of the UNHCR in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Kiran Core, officials and large number of spectators were also present. Imran Khan struck an elegant unbeaten knock of 51 runs off just 21 balls with three towering sixes and seven cracking boundaries helped Peshawar to a comfortable 10 wickets victory. Muhammad Tariq was the other leading contributor who scored 38 runs.
Charsadda King skipper won the toss and elected to bat first by setting up a meager runs target of 92 runs with Ajab Gul made 28 runs and Tanveer Khan scored 19 runs, none of the other batsmen could cross the double figures. In reply to 92 runs target, thank to opener Imran Khan who hammered a cracking 51 runs not out with three towering sixes and seven boundaries. He played a key role in steering team to victory.
Speaking on this occasion, Commissioner Afghan Refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Abbas Khan disclosed that they have constituted 10 teams out of the Afghan Refugees camps with the aim to involve the refugees youth in healthy sports activities. He said the League would be organized on regular basis and next time 15 teams would be constituted. He said from now on ward the League would be organized with teams from across Pakistan would be invited.
He also announced that soon an indoor afghan games would be organized so that to bring the youth to health sports activities. Abbas Khan said that they have initiated a plan for the wellbeing of Afghan Youth part of the Afghan Refugees Camps. "We will support all the activities," he said. Teams from Peshawar, Kohat, Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Haripur, Dir, Mansehera, Bannu, Shahkas Khyber Districts took part.
At the end, the chief guest UNHCR Chief in Peshawar Kiran Core, Commissioner Afghan Refugees Abbas Khan, Director General (DG) Afghan Refugees Waqar Maroof gave away trophies and cash prizes to the winners and runners-up.
