Parliamentary Secretary Ministry of Planning Development& Reform Kanwal Shuzab has stressed that investment in CRVS system is a key step for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of progress towards the targets of the SDGS.
The Parliamentary Secretary Kanwal Shuzab said this while chairing the meeting on Technical Support Unit of CRVS (Civil Registration Vital Statistics) held its first retreat wherein Parliamentary Secretary Kanwal Shauzab was the guest of honor. The CRVS retreat is organized to build on the success of the "First Ever International Summit" organized on November 28-30, 2018 to stalk the current year's work plan and to discuss future course of action, says a press release issued here on Friday.
The meeting was also attended by Muqaddisa Mehreen, UNICEF, Aamer Khan, UNICEF, Dr Syed Mursilin, Technical Support Unit, CRVS, and also by Dr Muhammad Asif, Chief Health and Planning Commission.
The Parliamentary Secretary M/o PD&R appreciated the hard work and efforts of all the team members of Health Section M/o PD&R UNICEF and of TSU - CRVS. She said that the crucial requirement of the day is to spread awareness to people about registration of vital events which will be helpful in the calculation of important statistical figures.
The TSU would take lead at the National level for promotion and strengthening of CRVS in the country. The government intends to establish several units at the provincial level with the support of UNICEF, said the parliamentary secretary.
Kanwal Shauzab further said that successful planning, implementation and completion of development projects depends on high quality vital statistics. She expressed hope that with the collaborative approach of the team members of health section of M/o PD&R, TSU - CRVS, and UNICEF, government will be successful in achieving the objective of compiling accurate and reliable data.
The parliamentary secretary also noted that the NADRA is an important stakeholder which must be taken on board for the accumulation and compiling a national database on vital statistics.
On the same day parliamentary secretary attended the meeting on "Consultative Session on Establishment of a Network of Think Tanks on Population and Cross Sectoral Development" where she emphasized the need of population control, saying that the control of population is a major issue. She further elaborated by saying that if they do not pay attention to the prevention of population at this critical time, then in the next few years, Pakistan would be facing important problems of life.
Kanwal Shuzub also said that the population of South Punjab is twice as compared to other areas which need to be controlled.
She said that they have to concentrate on the prevention of population at a regional level than provincial level therefore; there is a need to introduce a modern research system for the prevention of population.
Kanwal Shauzab informed that a comprehensive unit has been established under Planning Commission to address the challenges of population which would regularly provide its feedback for policy formulation. The Think Tanks based unit on population is the need of hour.-PR
