ANP's general secretary, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that accountability is being used as tool to promote 'one-party rule' in the country and stressed on all political leadership to unite for combating threats to democracy. He was addressing a grand-night function organised under the auspices of Pakhtun Students Federation (PkSF), student wing of the party, in federal capital Islamabad. Besides, different wings of other political parties, people from various walks of life attended the event at large.
Addressing the function, the ANP's secretary general highlighted the foundation and role of the PkSF and termed it good omen that beside Pakhtunkhwa, the activities of the federation is also in full-swing in Punjab. He said that the organisation was established in 1968 during the dictatorial era of General Ayub Khan to bring the nation out of the darkness of military rule. PkSF, he said carried out awareness campaign in educational institutions against the martial law regime.
He said that despite unfavourable conditions, PkSF continued its efforts and is following the philosophy and ideology of Bacha Khan and Wali Khan now it plays the frontline role of ANP under the leadership of Asfandyar Wali Khan.
Mian Iftikhar said that the current situation demands that Pakhtuns should acknowledge their problems and work for the service of the people and fight for the rights of the deprived nations without any discrimination on the basis of colour, race and language.
He said today democracy is once again facing threats, for which he said the political leadership is required to show sagacity and unite. He said that accountability is being used as revenge against opposition, saying ANP had always demanded indiscriminate accountability. But, it shouldn't be used as hanging sword on the neck of opposition.
The veteran politician said that unfortunately efforts are being made to damage democracy for establishing of one-party rule in the country. He was of the opinion that Pakistan could not afford giving two-third majority to Imran Khan. He said that instead of pushing opposition to wall, there is need for indiscriminate and impartial accountability. He said that it should begin from the supporters of the government.
