Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority on Sunday claimed that it had closed down around 1300 premises and also imposed fines of Rs 80 million on eateries for violating food safety rules in different crackdown during year 2018. According to a yearly performance report issued here, stated that KP Food Authority had formally launched its operation in more than seven districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, include Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, DI Khan, Abbottabad and Swat in March 2018.
The teams had taken actions around the clock following the directives of the KP Food Authority Director General Riaz Meshud and ensured provision of hygienic and standardized foods to masses. Waqarullah Khan, spokesman for the KP Food Authority said that the authority had discarded more than 700,000 substandard food items during different crackdowns in nine months of 2018 and safe people from consuming unhygienic food.
Furthermore he said that warning and improvements notices had been issued to around 2100 eateries and business premises after thoroughly checking in the stated period. He added the as many as 1100 sealing during actions on daily basis, including 2661 bakeries, 740 schools, and 1230 hotels. In the aforementioned period, the official said that the discarding of 2 lakhs rotten eggs is at the top in district Mardan, which had to supply in different bakeries in the district. He furthermore maintained that 600 kilogram Chinese salt, supplying from Peshawar to Lahore, seized, while 10,000 kilogram substandard species had seized from different factories in Peshawar.
In DI Khan, he said 6,000 litres chemical mixed milk, supplying different part of the district, disposed off on the spot.
The official said the Food Authority had launched App for online license application and registration of complaints, under which more than 2,000 online license applications so far received, which had amicably resolved. He said the training programme was conducted for more than 4,000 food handers in seven districts. He said 700 volunteers also worked with the Authority.
