HR violations by Indian forces: Lord Nazir urges government to effectively internationalise IHK issue
British parliamentarian Lord Nazir Ahmed Monday urged the federal government to appoint a minister dedicated to highlighting the Kashmir issue for sensitising the international community on human rights violations by Indian forces in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking at a news conference along with Mushaal Hussein Mullick, wife of the senior Kashmiri leader Yasin Malik, the member of the British House of Lords said that Indian forces are committing worst human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.
He said that Indian security forces are targeting innocent Kashmiri people on daily basis in the held valley, adding that only on Sunday the Indian troops killed four children in the valley.
He underscored the need for an effective campaign at the international level to sensitise the world community on the worst human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and also urged Prime Minister Imran Khan to appoint a dedicated minister for the cause.
He also suggested that parliamentarians should be given a visit to the border along India so that they could get the knowledge of the ground situation across the border.
He emphasised the need for making the youth of Pakistani and Azad Jammu and Kashmir universities proactive for launching the campaign over the human rights violations in the Indian occupied Kashmir.
He also lamented that there is no English newspaper from the AJK to effectively internationalise the issue of Kashmir. On the contrary, he said that the Indian media is regularly highlighting the Indian government's point of view while Pakistani mainstream media is less bothered. Lord Nazir Ahmed called for publication of English daily from the AJK to highlight the Indian atrocities before the international community. To a question, he said that the previous government of Nawaz Sharif did not raise the issue of Kashmir effectively on the internal platform and passed its term without making any serious effort.
He said that Mualana Fazlur Rehman had been holding the chairmanship of parliamentary committee on Kashmir for over 10 years but he did not raise for the people of Kashmir one single time.
Mushaal Hussein Mullick said that the Indian security forces have been using inhuman tactics and targeting the innocent Kashmir people including women and children indiscriminately.
She urged the international community and world human rights bodies to take notice of the Indian security forces' atrocities against the innocent Kashmir people and play their due role to stop the human rights violations in the occupied valley.
