The provincial task force formed for action against power-theft and defaulters has recovered more than Rs 120 million, arrested 371 persons for hampering official work and also seized electricity equipment worth Rs130 million. The task force, constituted on the directives of the federal government, is working against power pilferages and defaulters vigorously, for last two months.
It was disclosed at a special review meeting of the task force cell. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Energy Secretary Saleem Khan presided over and the Incharge of Reporting Cell at the Provincial Task Force, Additional Secretary Zafarul Islam, Team Leader Saifullah Khan, Coordinator Malik Shuja Khan, CEO PESCO Dr Amjad Ali Khan, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Dr Imran Hamid Sheikh, DC Swat Salman Lodhi, DC Bannu Ali Asghar and other senior authorities, attended the meeting.
The meeting decided further acceleration of the campaign for the achievement of the targets: preventing illegal use of electricity and recovery of the outstanding arrears. PESCO was directed to decrease the period of load-shedding in those areas where the people are paying their bills for consumed electricity. The meeting was told that the highest amount of Rs50 million has been recovered from defaulters in Peshawar followed by recovery of Rs30.5 million and Rs30 million in districts Lakki Marwat and Bannu, respectively. The campaign also remained successful in districts Swabi, Mardan, Charsadda, Nowshera, DI Khan and Kohat.
