Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has approved a project worth of Rs 184 million, aiming at to facelift of three historic locations in the provincial metropolis. The project is mainly focused on renovation and beautification of historic Qissa Khawani Bazaar Chowk Yadgar and Khyber Bazaar to revive the old glory of the provincial capital. The project PC-I had recently approved by provincial government, which was handed over to Peshawar Development Authority.
The renovation work, including restoration and beautification of buildings, installation of streetlights, and pavement of footpaths, will initiate in the three bazaars, which have much historic importance under the preliminary phase, said an official statement issued by Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) here on Sunday.
The PDA official said the project is part of KP govt's efforts to revive the Peshawar as flowers of city. He said that initiative would ensure the restoration of old glory of the provincial capital.
He said tourists will also facilitate through the project. He said there is need of business community and locals' support which will boost the local businesses as well.
The official told that PDA has completed preparations for the project, which will formally inaugurate by the KP Local Government Minister Shahram Khan Tarakai next month.
According to PDA, the business community had been consulted in this regard. The future course of action will be prepared as per needs of the business community.
The PDA official said tourists, business community and locals will fully facilitate under the project, which was part of the government 100 days agenda for which the PDA is assigned the task.
He said Qissa Khawani bazaar and Chowk Yadgar have much historic importance but both are currently presenting a picture of complete neglect. He said the main objective of the project is to restore confidence of tourists. He said the day is not far away, when Peshawar will again at top in world tourists' destination.
The official told that three bazaars is the only previous asset for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but also for the entire country as incidents connected with these bazaars have much importance in the rest of the world. He said the Qissa Khawani is always favourite destination for tourists, which will be further beautified after carrying out renovation work in the bazaar.
