Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Activist on Thalassemia Eradication from Pakistan, Ateeq Ur Rehman has appealed President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan for immediate enforcement of "legislation on Thalassemia screening before marriage".
Ateeq said that the support of President and Prime Minister on "Thalassemia Free Pakistan will be a driving force and shall bring astounding progress in this field of predicament. He said huge amount is required for screening the nation for Thalassemia; therefore a big public-private partnership is needed.
Ateeq Ur Rehman emphasized that within 2 to 3 years and by all means, Pakistan must get rid from the destruction of deadly disease Thalassemia.
He stressed that due to lack of awareness and prevention programmes the threat of Thalassemia is rising in Pakistan as continuously both would be husband and would be wife having Thalassemia genes are marrying to each other. We have to go out of our way to save the country from this "Thal Explosion", which is massive but unfortunately not adequately addressed.
It is quite encouraging to note that federal and provincial governments continue to tackle polio eradication as a public health emergency. Ateeq Ur Rehman said that similar preference must be given to eradicate Thalassemia from the country.
