Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders including Maryam Nawaz and her son Junaid Safdar met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif at Kot Lakhpat Jail on Thursday. Maryam Nawaz also brought homemade food for her father. During the visit, Maryam enquired about the well being of his father who was facing some health problems including fever, sources said. The PML-N leaders Mushahidulla, Rana sanaullah and others also met Nawaz Sharif in the jail.
The accountability court on December 24 had convicted Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference and sentenced him to seven years in prison. Mushahidullah Khan in his media talk outside the jail criticised the PTI-led government saying the "imposed" government is roaming around the world with a begging bowl as it lacks any substantive economic plan.
He said the government has taken massive foreign loans to stabilise the economy with no idea to repay them. "The person who used to say that 'I would never beg' is asking for money all over the world. Their agenda is anti-democratic and Pakistan," he added. The PML-N leader said his leader Nawaz and his followers won't bow their head before the powers that be as they are the stakeholders of democracy in the country, adding that his leader is in jail because he refused to compromise. "Nawaz and Shehbaz are facing cases bravely. Had there been a transparent election, Pakistan would have progressed immensely," he said.
Mushahidullah said the people of Pakistan are asking when will the PTI government give them 10 million jobs and 0.5 million housing units. Former Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said Nawaz Sharif is facing brutal political victimization. "While the ministers are busy in levelling baseless accusations, the labourers are not getting their wages and businesses have frozen. If this condition prevails, the country can default," he added.
