The rupee showed divergent trend against the dollar on the money market on Monday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee picked up two paisas against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.82 and Rs 138.84 respectively, they said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: In the first Asian trade, the dollar held steady near a two-week high against a basket of currencies on Monday, as investor risk appetite held up despite the latest data showing China's 2018 economic growth slowing to a near three-decade low.
The dollar index, which measures its strength against a group of six major currencies, was steady at 96.308 after climbing to 96.394 percent on Friday, its strongest since Jan 4.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 71.180 and the US currency was available at 6.790 in terms of the Chinese yuan.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee lost 20 paisas versus the dollar for buying at Rs 139.00 and it also shed 10 paisas for selling at Rs 139.40, they said. The rupee, however, gained sharply in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 157.50 and Rs 159.00 respectively, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee appreciated its worth on buying side while it stayed unchanged on selling side in relation to the US dollar on the local currency market on Monday.
According to currency dealers, the dollar lost 10 paisas and ended for buying at Rs 138.70 against the previous closing rate of Rs 138.80 while it firmly sustained its opening trend for selling at Rs 139.80.
In addition, the local currency moved both ways in process of trading against the pound sterling which was bought and sold at Rs 178.20 and Rs 179.50 against the Saturday's closing rates of Rs 178.80 and Rs 179.40 respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar rupee parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Monday.
The dollar opened at Rs 139.10(buying) and Rs 139.20(selling) against same last rate. It closed at Rs 139.10(buying) and Rs 139.20(selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs 67,800(selling) and Rs 67,5000(buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
