The registration of farmers is underway in four tehsils of Sialkot district and more than 12,000 farmers had so far been registered disclosed Deputy Commissioner Syed Bilal Haider while addressing Agriculture Advisory Committee meeting held Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner further stated that under the 24,000 farmers of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district would be registered.
He further revealed that as many as 771 farmers had obtained agriculture loans amounting to Rs 4.80 crore during Rabi crop season 2018-19 in the district. The Deputy Commissioner on the occasion directed the representative of Farm Water Management that adequate steps should be taken to create awareness about the importance to the farmers about High Efficiency Irrigation System aimed at promoting Drip Farming in Sialkot district and Punjab government was providing 60 percent subsidy in this regard.
The facility of high efficiency irrigation system would be ensured on 350 acres of land out of which the facility had been provided on 161 acres of land at a cost of Rs 94.62 lakh he added.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that government was keen to promote agriculture sector on modern lines aimed at enhancing per acre yield of the major crops. The government was providing 60 percent subsidy on drip irrigation system while the farmer community will only contribute 40 percent for the installation of the system, he said.
