Temperature dropped to minus 16 degrees Celsius in Skardu over the past 24 hours, as the Met Office on Saturday forecast that the most parts of the country are expected to witness a cold and dry weather on Sunday. Makran, Karachi and other coastal areas may receive light rain in the morning hours with cloudy weather prevailing. Fog is likely to continue to engulf plains of Punjab and upper Sindh in the morning and night time.
The Met has also asked farmers to remove weeds from their fields and make plans to irrigate Rabi crops. It also said that the extreme cold weather may damage their nurseries and standing crops, which needed to be protected. Over the past 24 hours: A very cold and dry weather gripped the most parts with an isolated rain and with snowfall over the hills in Malakand and Hazara Divisions, Kashmir and a few places in Murree and Islamabad.
Temperature in Kalam and Bagrote was minus 11 degrees Celsius, each, Astore minus 10, Gupis and Malamjabba minus 9, each, Kalat minus 7, Parachinar, Hunza and Quetta minus 5, each, Murree minus 4, Mirkhani, Dir, Drosh and Kakul minus 3, each, Chitral, Gilgit, Rawalakot, Zhob and Dalbandin minus 2, each, Bunji and Muzaffarabad minus 1, each.
Malamjabba received 8mm of rainfall, Muzaffarabad 7 mm, Garhidupatta 5mm, Murree 4 and Kalam 4mm, each, Balakot 3mm, Mirkhani 2mm, Kakul and Islamabad 1mm, each. Murree also received 1.5 inches of snowfall. "Shallow westerly wave is present over southern parts of the country," the Met added.
