Revenue collection: MCC Lahore registers 29 percent growth in January

During the month of January, the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Appraisement Lahore has collected Rs 3028 million against Rs 2340 million during January, 2018, thus registering growth of 29%. Overall, the Collectorate collected Rs 6885 million during January, 2019. A review meeting on monthly revenue and working of various sections and branches of the Collectorate held on Friday at Lahore Dry Port that was attended by senior officers of the Collectorate.
Performance related to speedy clearance of cargo, recovery, audit, post release verification, proper application of valuation rulings and assessment and progress of court cases were discussed in detail. Jamil Nasir, Collector issued instructions to the recovery officers to speed up their efforts for recovery of government dues where no valid stay order exists against recovery.
He urged the staff to make all-out efforts to auction immovable properties attached by the Collectorate through "Special Auction" where process of mutation and proclamation of sale have been completed. He also emphasized that liquidation claims filed by the Collectorate should be pursued with liquidators for early disposal and underlined the importance of revenue collection through administrative measures in view of likely reduction in imports which may impact Customs Duty collection in the remaining months of current fiscal year.
While reviewing performance of Post Release Verification (PRV) Cell it was observed with a sense of satisfaction that in majority cases, detected amount has been deposited voluntarily by the importers on pointation by PRV and cases where importers did not agree with the audit observations have been referred for adjudication.
About the subjudice cases, it was apprised that reconciliation exercise relating to cases under appeal before the Customs Appellate Tribunal has been completed and registrar of the Tribunal has been requested to fix the cases pending since long for hearing and early decision. Jamil Nasir congratulated the participants of the meeting on achieving Customs Duty target and emphasized that efforts should continue to meet revenue targets in coming months as well.
