This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "Karachi" carried by the newspaper yesterday. As pointed out by the writer, Farhat Ali, many Karachiites remain nostalgic about the good old days. Talking about Karachi of the 1950s and 1960s has made me feel all nostalgic. Empress Market, for example, provides a happy return to the past after removal of encroachments from around it. I always feel happy and also slightly sad when I think about Karachi of the 60s. The country's apex court deserves praise for its decision in relation to Karachi, which has suffered too much and for too long. Restoring Karachi to its original grandeur and beyond is an historic step.
