A sharp increase in prices of chicken meat, vegetable, pulses, sugar and other important commodities was witnessed in the retail market, said in a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
An upward trend in prices of chicken meat is continued in retail market as available at Rs 155 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs 116 per kilogram in the previous week, the survey noted. It added that a dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs 110 and Rs 120.
Butchers are defying the official prices of cow meat of Rs 250 per kilogram and selling at Rs 350 and Rs 400 per kilogram as the consumers have complained about charging of exorbitant rate by the butchers in local market.
Buyers have perturbed over sudden increase in price of tomato as it is selling at Rs80 and Rs100 per kilogram, which is being sold at Rs30-40 per kilogram in the previous week. Price of onion also increased in retail market as being available at Rs 40 per kilogram against the rate of Rs30 per kilogram in last week.
Ginger is being sold at Rs 240 per kilogram, while Chinese garlic available at Rs100 per kilogram and locally produced garlic priced at Rs 60 per kilogram in retail market.
Similarly, price of peas is shot up at Rs 100 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs40 per kilogram in the previous. Arvi is being sold at Rs 80 per kilogram against the price of Rs 40 per kilogram. Cabbage is being sold at Rs50 per kilogram, while cauliflower priced at Rs25 per kg.
Likewise, price of red potato has remained unchanged as available at Rs 25 per kilogram. Ladyfinger is being sold at Rs 100-120 per kilogram. Apple, round and other gourd are being sold within range of Rs50, Rs 60 and Rs80 per kilogram in the local market. Bringle is available at Rs 30 per kilogram. Lemon is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram, while green chili priced at Rs80 per kilogram. Reddish is available at Rs40 per kilogram. Capsicum is being sold at Rs100 per kilogram in retail market.
According to the survey, the prices of pulses have remained 'high-side' in the retail market. A good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs150 per kilogram, while toota rice available at Rs 70 and Rs 80 per kilogram in local market, the survey said.
It added the price of dal channa has gone up at Rs140 per kilogram which was selling at Rs 130 per kilogram in the previous week. Likewise, the rate of big size white channa has increased at Rs150 per kilogram against the rate of Rs 140 per kilogram.
The survey further noticed that price of dal mash has increased at Rs140 per kilogram which was selling at Rs130 per kilogram. Dal masoor at Rs 90 per kilogram, white lobiya is being sold at Rs 110 per kilogram in retail market.
The locally produced red bean is being sold at Rs 180 per kilogram, while Tajikistan red bean priced at Rs 130 per kilogram in retail market, the survey noticed. It added that the moonge is being sold at Rs 110 per kilogram.
Dal chilka (green) is being sold at Rs 120 per kilogram, while dal chilka (black) available at Rs 130 per kilogram. Dhoti dal is being sold at Rs110 per kilogram in the local market. Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs1 20 per kilogram.
The survey noticed that price of sugar has decreased at Rs 58 per kilogram, while some shopkeers are still selling sugar at Rs 60 per kilogram in retail market.
According the survey, the prices of cooking/ghee of all brands and qualities were remained high-side in retail market, as available within range of Rs160, Rs180 and Rs200 per kg/litre.
The survey further added that Fruits as a staple food, which are available at high rates in provincial capital Peshawar. Apples are being sold at Rs 120 and Rs 150 per kilogram. Pomegranate is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram, orange at Rs 80 per dozen, kinnow at Rs 60 per kilogram. Guava is being sold at Rs 100 per kilogram in local market.
