The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced that it will start a crackdown against fake and green number plate, as well as unregistered and non-customs paid vehicles across the province from today (Monday).
Talking to media persons after visiting to different offices of Excise here on Sunday, Secretary Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Riaz Meshud said that the fake and unregistered number plates are earned bad name for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Peshawar and other districts numbers plates were considered suspected in other parts of the country.
He said that the reforms process has been initiated in Excise and Taxation department. He added the reshuffling of high-officers in the last week, is also part of this reforms. He said the steps are being taken for computerization of the property tax and vehicle registration system.
The official said that all officers would be responsible for meeting the set revenue targets. He said the promotion of officers is linked to demonstration of best performance. He said the Excise and Taxation department will be made a role model government institute.
Earlier, chairing a meeting at Excise and Taxation department, Riaz Mehsud has presented reforms in excise. The meeting reviewed the overall performance and initiatives taken by the department. It was also discussed the digitization of different sections of the department as well as determination of new roadmap in future.
Riaz Meshud on the occasion directed that to devise mechanism to meet the set revenue targets in the current fiscal year. He said the new revenue targets will be set on basis of performance.
He also directed the establishment of Tax facilitation centres at divisional level in order to provide services of people at their doorstep. Director General Excise, Atif Khan while speaking at the meeting informed the participants that the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department is primarily engaged in collection of various provincial taxes, duties, fees and cess items. Its functions include tax facilitation and extend to trace-out the use of illegal and smuggled vehicles and traffic in contraband's, he added.
The DG said that the department performs regulatory and public welfare functions/services such as motor vehicle registration and development of tobacco crop, tobacco production areas and tobacco farmers, through utilization of collected Tobacco Development Cess (TDC).
The official furthered said the Department is also mandated to register Motor Vehicle Dealers, Real Estate Agents and Video Cassette Shops. He added that the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department carries a distinction amongst the line departments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for its three-pronged functions of Taxation, Regulation and Public Welfare.
He informed that recruitment of youth will soon start to overcome with human resource deficiency in the department. He said the staff will be hired wherein the department is required.
