Kashmir Solidarity Day was observed on Tuesday in a befitting manner in this metropolis where almost all major political parties, religious groups and human rights activists reaffirmed their full support to oppressed people of occupied Kashmir and their right of self-determinations.
Karachi saw a number of protest demonstrations and rallies that were taken out to condemn Indian atrocities and grave human right violations in the occupied Kashmir. They also asked international community and human right organisations to help out the Kashmiris subjugated by India for a long time.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) organised a rally that began from Insaf House and culminated at the mausoleum of founder of Pakistan and father of the nation Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. PTI MPA Khurram Sher Zaman led the rally. Another rally was brought out under the aegis of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) to mark solidarity with downtrodden Kashmiris. They lit candles to pay homage to the martyrs of Kashmir who sacrificed their lives fighting for their rights to seek liberation of Kashmir from the yoke of India.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui lamented the failure of United Nations (UN) in implementing its own resolutions on Kashmir issue. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari likened Kashmir Valley as heaven on earth which the Indian forces had littered with blood of Kashmiri youth, men, women and even children. He said freedom movement of occupied Kashmir is near to success and occupation by India would soon to an end once and for all.
He said his grandfather Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's speech at the UN General Assembly is the landmark document on Kashmir. He cited that ZA Bhutto had turned down India's claim over Kashmir. He said that was the best stance based on reality and PPP continued to hold that position even today and would adhere to that position until the Kashmir freedom. He said Kashmir Day is a candid and clear message to Indian government and its brutal forces that Pakistan and Kashmir are not two but one as they are chained in one religion, culture and traditions.
"The UN should now act on its own resolutions on Kashmir. Political workers and intellectuals in India are also accepting today that Kashmir is a disputed territory and India cannot sustain occupation of Kashmir for longer time," he said.
Bilawal said PPP and Kashmiris struggle are two sides of a coin and the party would keep supporting the Kashmir cause at all the national and international forums.
He vowed no power on earth could help India maintain occupation of Kashmir. PPP Women Wing president and Member of Sindh Assembly Faryal Talpur said that the Kashmir dispute must be resolved in accordance with the United Nation's resolutions. Other Kashmir related programmes were held under the aegis of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) and Pasban Democratic Party where speakers announced to support the Kashmir cause and expressed solidarity with people of held-Kashmir.
