The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has removed 10,000 illegal number plates and 600 official number plates from vehicles not authorized to use government number plates. The action was taken during a crackdown on the non-customs paid vehicles and illegal and fake registration number plates.
Sharing details of the drive, an official of the department told Business Recorder here that around 600 green number plates had put off from vehicles of government employees. He said that those employees are not authorized to use green plates, will be issued computerized number plate.
The official said that it will be made mandatory to display computerized number plates on all vehicles in the province. He, otherwise, said the penalty of Rs5,000 per vehicles will be imposed under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Vehicle Registration Law after Feb 11.
Following the directive of Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Riaz Mehsud, the official said the drive will be carried on daily basis. He said the check points had been established at entry and exit points at every district wherein the Excise squads will keep vigilant eye on movement of all vehicles. Secretary Excise and Taxation, Riaz Mehsud vowed that they will completely eliminate fake, green number plates as well as non-computerized and non-custom paid vehicles in next six months across the province.
Meanwhile, the department admin and director Peshawar region, Khalid Khan told this scribe that five check posts had established at entry and exit points in the provincial capital, wherein number plates of more than 4,000 vehicles had removed.
