Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) stalwart Syed Khurshid Shah has demanded to include Prime Minister Imran Khan in Aleem Khan's case. If the laundry bill of Bilawal can be investigated, why investigations cannot be extended to Imran Khan for getting sponsorship from a person facing corruption charges, he wondered.
Khurshid Shah was talking to the media at the residence of PPP Punjab leader Syed Hassan Murtaza on Friday. "Without extending investigations to Imran Khan, the accountability process would be merely eyewash," he added.
Shah further said arrest of Aleem Khan also suggests that a balancing act has been introduced by the government to justify arrests of opposition leaders. If this is not a true impression, then investigations should not stop at Aleem Khan, he stressed.
He said the names of many other beneficiaries are also circulating, especially those who benefited from Aleem Khan's funds in terms of hiring of chartered planes, election and Umrah expenses.
He said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) laws should be amended and progress to this direction could be made if all political parties agree upon it.
Replying to a query, he said no one has ever sought NRO from the government. On the apex court's verdict regarding Faizabad sit-in, he said the verdict should be implemented in letter and spirit and the PPP would take it up in the Parliament.
He said the government was not serious in running the affairs of country. He criticized the government for sharing tax details before the announcement of mini budget that led to profits to many and losses to others. Also, he said, the government did not hold debate on mini budget after presenting it in the Parliament. Shah said the PPP would also raise this issue in the Parliament. He stressed on peaceful solution of Afghan issue as a peaceful Afghanistan is in favour of Pakistan and it is also a guarantee of regional peace. He also urged the government to listen to the demands of Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement and resolve them at the earliest.
