Two-day Lahooti Melo 2019, a joint venture of Sindh University and Lahooti Organization concluded upon strong note of practicing and preaching of core human values including love, peace and universal brother hood. Ecstatic music performances until wee hours ushered its end.
The second day of this grand festival served as an occasion for all to hear and witness erudite sessions on wide spectrum of socio-political issues by scholarly panelists from a wide cross section of society.
Sindh Minister for Education, Culture, Archives and Antiquities Department Syed Sardar Ali Shah, sharing session with celebrated music icon and education philanthropist Shahzad Roy said that Sindh, over centuries, had remained as unflinching emblem of socio-political resistance. "It is a gross misconception to misconstrue nefarious social customs as 'culture of Sindh-for they are not. Sindh has all along been having a culture of all positive, universal, core human values", Shah added.
VC-SU Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat as a panelist in a session on "Gendered World of Higher Education in Sindh" argued that people needed to change their perspective on female education to a more positive tilt; adding that SU had put in place special measures to cater girl students special anti-harassment cover and overall security zone so that they could study unperturbed. "I stress strong, intimate, friendly bond between parents and their girl children for girls to be able to share all their problems with parents as their confidants. This would significantly transform gender landscape in higher education sector in Sindh", Dr. Burfat emphasized.
Secretary Sindh Education (Schools) Dr. Qazi Shahid Pervaiz said that there existed significant measure of harassment against women at workplace; which he termed a global phenomenon. Complimenting VC-SU upon taking concerted efforts to curb harassment prospects at SU, Qazi stressed the need for change of male mindset in the given context.
