While the 4th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is getting underway from Thursday (February 14), Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz and spin bowler Yasir Shah are optimistic to give best of their best in the event, to get birth in the Pakistani squad for the World Cup 2019.
Pacer Wahab Riaz, who is representing Peshawar Zalmi in PSL-IV, said in an interview that he is eyeing a place in the Pakistan World Cup squad through his performance in the PSL-IV. He said he still has the hunger and passion to play for the national team and hoping that his performance in the PSL will give him place in the squad.
He said, "I have been bowling well in the leagues and I hope through my performance in the tournament I can become a part of the national squad." When asked about his goals for this year's PSL, Riaz said reaching the final is at the top of his list. "As a bowler, I have a responsibility and I want to make sure we reach the final again this time like last year."
When asked about the eight matches to be staged in Pakistan, Riaz said, "I want to congratulate the Pakistan Cricket Board for scheduling the matches in Pakistan. It is an excellent initiative which will help with the revival of international cricket in the country."
Moreover, Lahore Qalandars spinner Yasir Shah said he has worked a lot on his bowling and the results will be seen during the matches of the PSL. "Wickets in the UAE are usually good for spinners and I will try to take maximum advantage of it," he said, adding: "My aim is to become the top bowler in this PSL. I have worked on my googly and sliders, and you will see the results in the ground.
All the players in the league are top players. I don't have any particular batsman in my sight but I will try to give my best regardless of whom I'm bowling to." Yasir further said all the players in the Lahore Qalandars team were excited and looking forward to the PSL. He was also confident of different results as compared to the previous editions.
