As many as 1,247 FIRs have been registered and 1,273 accused were arrested in crackdown against kite and string manufacturing, sale/purchase and kite flying during the last 45 days in the district.
This was disclosed at a meeting which was jointly presided over by Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar and CPO Ashfaq Ahmad Khan. The meeting was attended by SSP Operation Ismail ur Rehman, ADCG Mian Aftab Ahmad, officers of other law enforcement agencies and representatives of business community including Aslam Bhalli, Mian Tanvir Riaz, Ch Boota, Ch Asghar, Mehmud Alam Jatt and Rana Sikandar Azam.
It was revealed on this occasion that 43,859 kites, 3,025 strings and 649 gouts have been recovered from the accused during the operation against this illegal business.
Deputy Commissioner Sardar Saifullah Dogar said that Punjab govt. had taken very serious notice of kite flying and its business in the wake of recent tragic incident of two deaths in Faisalabad and ordered for taking aggressive legal action to prevent this illegal act. He said that full legal force would be utilized to stop manufacturing/business of kites/twine and kite flying. He said that crackdown against these illegal activities was underway by the joint teams of district administration and police. He said that there was zero tolerance against manufacturing/business and kite flying and strict enforcement of law would be ensured in this regard. Deputy
Commissioner said the support and cooperation of business community was imperative for eradicating this business from the roots. He said workshops and business spots of kite/string should be identified so that this illegal trade could be busted. He also urged the citizens not to allow their children to violate Kite Flying Act otherwise the violators would be sent behind the bars.
CPO Ashfaq Ahmad Khan urged the business community to identify the black sheep involved in illegal business of kite/twine manufacturing. He cleared that Punjab govt had not allowed to celebrate Basant and directed for vigorous operation against the violators. He said that manufacturing of kites and twine was not a business but it was trap of death.
He stressed upon the business community for boycotting such elements which were involved in manufacturing and business of kites/twine. He said that action would also be taken against the aerial firing and no one allowed to take the law into hand.
The representatives of business community assured their all out cooperation to check the illegal business of kite/twine and said the serious measures of district administration would be made successful by extending full support.
