ISLAMABAD: The demand for crispy fried fish, a favorite delicacy of the Winter season has increased elsewhere in the country where Fish selling outlets were crowded with customers.

Families of different social classes come to these outlets to hit the cold with various kinds of fish including Mushka, Raho, Simon, Pomfret, Mahsher, and Lobsters and fried fish is available at Rs.400 to Rs.1200 per kilogram.

According to shopkeepers, many vendors are cashing in on the trend and setting up fried fish stalls outside their outlets to attract customers.

The demand of fish is the most favorite item of winter which has increased manifold in harsh winter and fish outlets in different areas of the cities including twin cities are crowded with customers.

An owner of a shop explained that while fish is available for most of the year, his business peaks in winter. “I earn three to five times the usual amount in winter as people prefer to eat fried fish owing to its affordability,” he added.

“Grilled and baked fish is the new craze,” another shopkeeper Suleman Naeem said.

A fried fish seller said,  “I have been in this business for the past many years. The demand for fish increases every winter, therefore we try to earn a lot to balance our budget.”

Fried fish is the best choice to fill deficiency of energy and to beat cold season, he said adding the price of the fish was reasonable in fish points said a citizen Muhammad Basit.

Most people prefer deep-fried finger fish. “The recipe is quite simple; we marinated fish pieces with spices, pomegranate seed powder and salt. Those who prefer an additional spicy kick can spread chaat masala on it,” shopkeeper said.

“It is crispier and tastier since it is fried in lesser oil,” said a citizen in Islamabad city, who was waiting for his order in Melody market.

“We receive many orders from people during the day, some want deep-fried fish, some prefer tawa macchi, but grilled and baked fish is the new craze,” said the owner of a fish shop.

“I simply love fried fish with chips and sauce because it is fresh and delicious,” says Zainab Javed, a foodie in Islamabad said.

Fish is a great source of protein and it can be a cure for many diseases, according to health experts.
