Sindh High Court (SHC) on Saturday directed the provincial government to furnish joint investigation teams (JITs) reports regarding Lyari gangster Uzair Baloch and Baldia Town factory fire tragedy on February 23, 2019.
A division bench of SHC issued these orders in a petition, filed by Ali Zaidi, Federal Minister Maritime Affairs who prayed the court to make public the JITs of Baldia Town factory tragedy, Uzair Baloch and also of Nisar Morai, the former chairman of Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS).
Advocate General Sindh Salman Talabuddin told the division bench - headed by Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro that the notification for constitution of the JIT has not been issued, so far so how that JIT report could be submitted in the court.
He informed the court that reports of JITs related to Uzair Baloch and Baldia Town factory fire had been produced in the trial courts. The SHC bench directed that the sealed reports of JITs in two cases, which were produced in the trial court, should also be furnished with the bench. "We also want to go through these reports which were produced in trial court," bench remarked. It ordered that these reports should be produced in-camera hearing of the case.
Advocate General, however, contended that reports of JITs related to Baldia Town factory incident and Uzair Baloch can't be made public because of sensitivities attached to them. The SHC directed AG Sindh to produce those reports in the chamber.
Petitioner Ali Zaidi stated that Baldia Town factory incident claimed more than 250 lives but the JIT report has not been made public. He stated the JITs reports of Morai and Uzair had not been made public, officially. Ali Zaidi stated that Nisar Morai disclosed the name of a politician in the murder of seven persons during the investigation, so the JIT report should be made public as it is his fundamental right being a citizen to know about the contents of JIT.
Meanwhile, a division bench of SHC ordered defence counsel to give his arguments on February 23 in a bail petition of the accused in millions of rupees corruption in Fishermen Cooperative Society (FCS). The NAB prosecutor completed his arguments in the petition, filed by former vice chairman of FCS Sultan Qamar Siddiqui and other accused. The prosecutor opposed the petition of the accused arguing that there are undeniable proofs against the accused in the case.
