Goods transport owners have announced to observe wheel-jam strike for indefinite period if the government fails to take action against the Khasadar Force personnel at Torkham border who force them for bribe. They alleged that the personnel ob both sides of the Pak-Afghan border had been demanding of the transport operatives to grease their palms.
According to their statement, All Mushtarik Goods Transport Owners Association president Haji Mohammad Yousuf presided over a joint meeting of various unions of transporters at Ring Road on Sunday. The participants said that personnel of Customs department and Khasadar Force were forcing them to pay bribe while on way to Afghanistan or on return to Peshawar.
Other transporters, including Mehmood Shah, Jahanzeb Afridi also spoke on the occasion. They said law enforcers of Afghanistan were also teasing them and no one was allowed to go ahead unless they paid bribe. They appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan to take notice of injustice being done to transporters and ensure smooth flow of the goods transport to and from Afghanistan to boost trade activities in the neighbouring countries.
The transporters appreciated the federal government for keeping Torkham border open round the clock and described it a wise step to strengthen regional economy. They said it was time that both Islamabad and Kabul should forget the past acrimonies and take revolutionary steps to encourage exports/imports on both sides of the border. They said that the law enforcers impede the movement of those transporters who refuse to pay bribe due to which they could hardly return to Peshawar from Afghanistan in one month period.
