Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken exception to the decision of PTI government for ignoring opposition leaders to invite them to the reception to be hosted in honour of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman(MBS) and described it as totally undemocratic decision on part of the rulers.
Speaking at a meeting of the party, PPP provincial president Engineer Mohammad Hamayun Khan here on Sunday said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government is lacking expertise in dealing with foreign delegations and thus it had opted to keep the opposition away from the official engagements during the two-day visit of the Saudi Crown Prince to avoid public humiliation.
Those who attended the meeting were included provincial Vice President Ayub Shah, Secretary Information Senator Rubina Khalid, MPA Nighat Orakzai, other office bearers including Farzand Ali Khan, Shah Zulqarnain, Khwaja Yawar Naseer, Anwar Zeb Khan, Tila Mohammad, Akhtar Ali Khan, Samiullah, others. The PPP leaders condemned a statement of Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry that the opposition leaders who were facing corruption charges could not be invited to attend the reception for the Saudi Crown Prince, stating that PTI ministers facing the NAB inquiries should also be kept away from the reception.
"The decisions taken by the government are live examples of its shortsightedness, incapability and intolerance to accommodate opposition even in the national-interests events," the PPP leaders said and added by doing so the PTI leadership would create problems for itself in future. The PPP KP chapter lamented that PTI leaders while in opposition had always condemned rival parties and levelled baseless allegations against them but after coming to power it had no courage to tolerate criticism.
They also expressed annoyance over removal of Benazir Bhutto's picture from the logo of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and warned that it was totally intolerable for the PPP workers. Talking about the prevailing situation in the country the PPP leaders announced masses contact campaign and decided to hold first workers' convention in Lakki Marwat on Feb 25, second in Lower Dir on Feb 28 and also asked leaders of different districts to fix dates for such events.
The meeting also discussed various issues and demanded of national accountability to take action against all those involved in corruption. PPP demanded probe into Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and condemned ban on the trade union in Statelife Insurance.
