On his fifth day at Jinnah Hospital, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif underwent different medical tests again while his daughter Maryam Nawaz, brother Shahbaz Sharif and others visited him on Tuesday to enquire about his health.
When Maryam Nawaz arrived at the hospital, the PML-N activists also gathered there and chanted slogans in favor of their leader. Shahbaz Sharif prayed for healing of his elder brother and said he had already pledged to quit politics if any corruption was proved against him.
Nawaz was shifted to Jinnah Hospital from Kot Lakhpat jail on Friday after the Punjab government allowed shifting of the deposed prime minister from the central jail in Lahore. Jail officials had brought the former premier, who is currently under arrest in Al-Azizia reference, to the hospital.
The hospital authorities sought medical history of Nawaz Sharif from jail authorities and his family including old medical record pertaining to his heart treatment in the UK. Dr Muhammad Adnan Khan, the personal physician of the former premier, also met him at the hospital.
Diabetes and blood pressure of the PML-N leader were normal, sources said, adding: "Shahbaz and Maryam were informed about medical reports and the ongoing treatment of the former PM by the doctors."
Replying to the reporters' queries, Shahbaz Sharif said the former premier was under treatment at the hospital and prayed for his early recovery. Maryam also prayed for her father's early recovery.
Jinnah Hospital's Medical Superintendent Dr. Asim Hameed told reporters that as per the Punjab government directions, the best medical facilities were being provided to former PM. He said his blood pressure, diabetes and ECG were being checked on daily basis, while the former PM was also underwent medical tests as advised by the medical board. He did not share results of his previous medical tests.
On the other hand, Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan said that Sharif family is doing politics over Nawaz Sharif's illness. Chohan said a fuss was made over this matter. All the medical reports of Nawaz Sharif are normal, he claimed. He pronounced that the former prime minister is making fun of himself. He was shifted to the cardiology ward where he refused to stay and finally settled in a room in the gynecology ward, Chohan said.
