Prime Minister Imran Khan Wednesday directed all the stakeholders to double their efforts against money laundering and ensure that criminals are taken to task. While chairing a meeting to review progress on efforts being made to curb money laundering, the Prime Minister said that money laundering posed serious threat to the country and, therefore, called for drastic measures. He directed all the stakeholders to double their efforts in making crime impossible and ensuring that criminals do not go scot-free.
The Prime Minister said the people found involved did not deserve any concession as the country was facing huge debt and economic challenges because national money was stashed into their personal accounts through money laundering. Law Minister Dr Farogh Naseem, Special Advisor to Prime Minister on Accountability Shehzad Akber, DG ISI Lt Gen Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Secretary Interior, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), DG Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF), home secretaries and other senior officers attended the meeting.
The Secretary Interior briefed the Prime Minister about the progress on the steps taken so far to combat money laundering. The meeting was also briefed about the administrative and legislative steps being taken specifically against money laundering.
