A bullish trend continued on Pakistan Stock Exchange due to healthy buying in various sectors. BRIndex100 gained 54.7 points or 1.32 percent to close at 4,186.85 points Friday. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,209.41 and intraday low of 4,132.30 points. Volumes stood at 123.804 million shares.
BRIndex30 increased by 371.03 points or 1.75 percent to close at 21,547.73 points with a turnover of 73.594 million shares. The KSE-100 index surged by 484.41 points or 1.24 percent to close at 39,539.02 points. Daily trading volumes stood at 137.196 million shares as compared to 159.385 million shares traded Thursday.
Foreign investors however remained net sellers of shares worth $2.5 million. The market capitalization increased by Rs 267 billion to Rs 8.084 trillion. Out of total 344 active scrips, 241 closed in positive, only 83 in negative while the value of 20 stocks remained unchanged.
Bank of Punjab was the volume leader with 8.841 million shares. It gained Re 0.10 to close at Rs 12.79 followed by OGDC that increased by Rs 4.09 to close at Rs 153.25 with 5.592 million shares.
Pak Tobacco and Wyeth Pak were the top gainers with Rs 67.80 and Rs 49.74, respectively to close at Rs 2,650.00 and Rs 1,046.08. Gatron Ind and ICI Pakistan were the top losers with Rs 17.25 and Rs 16.19, respectively to close at Rs 327.75 and Rs 664.25.
BR Commercial Banks Index increased by 125.61 points or 1.49 percent to close at 8,544.60 points with a turnover of 27.028 million shares. BR Cement Index gained 16.28 points or 0.39 percent to close at 4,203.29 points with 11.321 million shares.
BR Oil and Gas Index surged by 73.8 points or 1.52 percent to close at 4,913.17 points with 12.927 million shares. BR Tech. & Comm. Index inched up by 15 points or 1.54 percent to close at 987.39 points with 9.181 million shares. BR Power Generation and Distribution Index closed at 6,009.22 points, up 52.64 points or 0.88 percent with 7.502 million shares.
Maaz Mulla at JS Global Capital said that bulls ruled the local bourse, taking the KSE-100-index up by 484 points to close at 39,539 level. Market witnessed recovery in the trading session as value investors availed the opportunity to buy stocks at attractive prices.
Major contribution to total market volume came from BOP (up 0.8 percent), OGDC (up 2.7 percent) and KEL (up 0.8 percent). Major participation came in the banking, E&P and Steel sector where heavy-weight stocks such as HBL (up 3.1 percent), UBL (up 2.5 percent), MEBL (up 3.0 percent), PPL (up 0.6 percent), ISL (up 4.7 percent) and MUGHAL (up 5.0 percent) closed higher than their previous day close.
