Prices of essential food commodities, including vegetable, pulses, chicken, eggs, sugar and others have remained 'high-side' in retail market, according to survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Sunday. The survey noticed that the price of chicken has increased at Rs173 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs166 per kilogram in the previous week. A dozen of farm eggs are being sold at Rs110 and Rs120.
Butchers are openly defying the official price of beef in local market. The survey said that beef is being sold Rs400 per kilogram against the official rate of Rs300 per kilogram in local market. Mutton is available at Rs800 per kilogram.
Price of sugar has also gone up at Rs60 per kilogram against the rate of Rs58 per kilogram. Gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs120 and Rs130 per kilogram.
Tomatoes are available between Rs100 and Rs120 per kilogram, the survey witnessed. Ginger is being sold at Rs240 per kilogram against the price of Rs200 per kilogram in the previous week. Onion is being sold at Rs40 per kilogram against the rate of Rs25-30 per kilogram in the last week.
The survey further said that lemon is being sold at Rs120 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs100 per kilogram in last week. Green chili is being available at Rs80 per kilogram. Cucumber is being sold at Rs40 and Rs50 per kilogram. Carrots are being sold at Rs50-60 per kilogram. Radish is being sold at Rs15 and Rs20 per kilogram.
Arvi is being sold at Rs80 per kilogram, peas at Rs70, ladyfinger at Rs120, Capsicum at Rs80, turnip at Rs30, cauliflower at Rs50, potato at Rs30, cabbage at Rs40, okra, karela, kado and other vegetables also registered increase in prices.
According to the survey, prices of pulses/food grains have remained unchanged in retail market. It was noticed that good quality rice (sela) is being sold at Rs150 per kilogram, while same quality rice available at Rs140 per kilogram in local market. Toota rice is being sold at Rs70 and Rs80 per kilogram.
The survey further revealed that big size white channa is being available at Rs140 per kilogram, while some shopkeepers are selling same quality white channa at Rs120 per kilogram. Similarly, there is visible difference in prices dal mash as some vendors charging Rs120 per kilogram, while other Rs140 per kilogram in local market.
Dal masoor is being sold at Rs90 per kilogram, Dal channa Rs120, Dal chilka (green) at Rs130 while dal chilka (black) available at Rs140-150 per kilogram in retail market.
A visible variation in prices of white lobiya was noticed as some shopkeepers are charged Rs120 per kilogram while other sold at Rs100 per kilogram. Dhoti dal priced at Rs110 per kilogram and Rs120 per kilogram. Moonge is being sold at Rs100 per kilogram, while others selling at Rs110 and Rs120 per kilogram.
According the survey, prices of cooking/ghee was remained unchanged in retail market as available within range of Rs150, Rs180 and Rs200 per kilogram/litre.
