Gwadar Port has sought permission from Directorate of Transit Trade (DTT) for clearance of cargo for Afghan Transit Trade (ATT). In a letter sent to the DTT by Gwadar International Terminal Ltd, it said that necessary infrastructure for connecting Gwadar Port to Afghanistan and Central Asian States was in place and negotiation with bonded carriers was in progress for haulage support for transportation of cargo from Gwadar Port to Afghanistan.
Furthermore it said that bonded carriers had consented to collaborate with Gwadar port in the handling of Afghan transit cargo on behalf of importers.
Keeping the said in view, Gwadar International Terminal has requested DTT to grant permission for clearance of cargo for ATT from Gwadar port along with the provision to establish Transit Trade Directorate in order to enable Gwadar Port to handle considerable share of the commercial Afghan transit cargo through the custom route Gwadar - Turbat - Hoshab - Panjgur - Naag - Basima - Sorab - Kalat Quetta - Chaman Terminal.
The letter urged the DTT to issue necessary notification in this regard as it would help making Gwadar Port fully utilised and bring economic activity in the province of Balochistan.
