Pakistan Bar Council along with bar councils of all provinces and Islamabad demanded framing of rules by the Supreme Court for regulating the exercise of powers under Article 184(3) of the Constitution. Demanding amendment in Supreme Court Rules 1980, it was suggested that in case the matter was fixed on the judicial side, the Supreme Court should consider constituting the full court consisting of all its 17 judges.
Pakistan Bar Council on Saturday held daylong meeting in the Supreme Court building which was participated by the office-bearers of the bar councils of all provinces and Islamabad to deliberate upon exercise of powers under Article 184(3) of the Constitution, pending cases in the Supreme Judicial Commission and how to overcome menace of the strikes and boycott of the courts.
The meeting discussed that due to protests, pending cases in courts are increasing. They have demanded the Parliament legislate a law regarding the funding of bar councils.
They said that if funds will be allocated in the budget for the bar councils their problems would be solved. They said except in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa no other bar council has its own building. The meeting urged Prime Minister Imran Khan that bar councils of Sindh, Balochistan and Islamabad should be provided buildings, so that lawyers' training could be held. The meeting noticed that Rs 100 million was imposed as tax on the Punjab bar council. They demanded that in the interest of justice, references should be decided soon.
