The country is expected to receive nearly a normal rainfall with temperature scaling up between 1 and 2 degrees Celsius in plains in March. "Surface temperature will gradually increase during March and expected to remain 1-2 degree above normal over plain areas of the country. However normal temperatures are expected over mountainous region of the country," the Met said.
Temperature is expected to remain slightly above normal over northern half of the country. It said the possibility of hailstorm and thunderstorm cannot be ruled out with the weather system.
"Equatorial sea surface temperatures are above average across most of the Pacific Ocean and shows decreasing trend in coming months. North Atlantic oscillation is also in positive phase whereas Indian ocean Dipole in neutral phase," it added.
More snow and rain forecast: A westerly wave is likely to grip the country's parts on Sunday. The new system is expected to unleash a widespread rain-thunderstorm and snowfalls and gusty winds over the hills with isolated heavy falls in Balochistan till Sunday.
Scattered downpours are expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Hyderabad Divisions) while isolated falls in Karachi Division on Sunday.
The stormy rains and snowfall are also likely to pour in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from Sunday until Monday.
"Heavy falls may generate flash flooding in local nullah/riverine in Quetta, Zhob, Sibbi and Kalat divisions on Sunday and may trigger landslides in Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on Monday.
All concerned authorities are advised to remain alert and take precautionary measures during the period," the Met warned.
Minimum temperature was recorded in Kalam as minus 7 degrees Celsius, Astore minus 6, Parachinar, Gupis and Hunza minus 3 each, Malamjabba minus 2, Chitral, Dir, Mirkhani, Drosh and Skardu minus 1 each, as mainly cold and dry weather prevailed over the country's most parts in the last 24 hours.
