To celebrate International Women's Day, the Women Parliamentary Caucus organized a colorful event at Aiwan-e-Sadr here on the other day.
President Arif Alvi was the chief guest while the first lady Begum Samina Arif Alvi was the guest of Honor. This year's theme is "Better the Balance Better the World".
Secretary Women Parliamentary Caucus, MNA Munazza Hassan welcomed the guests, says a press release issued here. In her address, Munazza highlighted the importance of International Women's Day and WPC's commitment to women empowerment. She stated that "when the women rise the nation rise'. Munazza underscored the importance of persevering the dignity, respect and honour of women, as is ordained by Islam and the Constitution of Pakistan.
The secretary caucus, while concluding her address, thanked the first couple for hosting the event at Aiwan-e-Sadr and for showing their commitment to the women empowerment in the country. In his address, Dr Alvi commemorated women's achievements and treading into almost every sector, even those considered to be male dominated.
Dr Alvi highlighted the need to see women as companions and not as a challenge. He lauded women's potential and unlimited resilience to strive and achieve for what they aim at, and commended the central role women play as homemakers as well as million more whose contribution goes unrecognized.
Dr Alvi recognized the need to honour the national and international commitments to empower women and above the religious commitments that strongly commit women's rights, especially inheritance and economic rights.
The President concluded his address by reiterating the Government's unequivocal commitment to transforming the society through women empowerment.
MNA Dr Fehmida Mirza stated that it is a privilege to be celebrating the International women's Day with such brilliant, strong and distinguished women from all walks of life.
She highlighted that being female parliamentarians binds us with greater responsibility which transcends party, regional and ideological affiliations. better laws for protection and progress of women which would ultimately lead to a better Pakistan.
First Lady Samina Arif Alvi stated that women empowerment is very important. She said that Pakistan's majority population is women and their contribution is very important in progress of economy.
She also humbly thanks the participants. A documentary on International Women's Day and the work of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, a performance by the iconic Tina Sani, and a riveting theatrical project by the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) was also included in the event.-PR
