The rupee fluctuated slightly against the dollar on the money market on Wednesday in the process of trading activity, dealers said.
INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee inched up slightly in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.80 and Rs 138.82 respectively, they said.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee was unchanged versus the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 138.30 and Rs 138.80 respectively, they said. The rupee lost 50 paisas in relation to the euro for buying and selling at Rs 156.00 and at Rs 157.80 respectively, they said.
In the third Asian trade, pound edged up on Wednesday after turbulence following the defeat of British Prime Minister Theresa May's European Union exit deal, but investors braced for more volatility ahead of additional Brexit proceedings.
The British Parliament on Tuesday rejected May's deal to quit the European Union for a second time, deepening the country's political crisis days before the planned departure date on March 29. The dollar index against a basket of six major currencies was little changed at 96.992 after losing 0.3 percent overnight.
The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 69.710, the greenback was at 4.090 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and US currency was available at 6.711 in relation to the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee stayed unchanged on buying side while it appreciated on selling side in relation to the greenback in the local currency market on Wednesday.
According to currency dealers, the greenback firmly maintained its opening trend for buying at Rs 138.60 whereas it lost 10 paisas and ended lower for selling at Rs 139.20 against the overnight closing rate of Rs 139.30.
Moreover, the national currency continued declining trend for the second consecutive day versus the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates further improved from the Tuesday's closing of Rs 180.50 and Rs 182.00 to Rs 181.30 and Rs 182.70 respectively, they added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained five paisas against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Tuesday.
The dollar opened at Rs 138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90 (selling) against last rate of Rs 138.75 (buying) and Rs 138.85 (selling). It closed at Rs138.80 (buying) and Rs 138.90(selling).
The buying and selling rates of one tola of gold was Rs. 69,200 (selling) and Rs 69,000 (buying) in the local Sarafa (gold) markets of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
