Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua has reiterated Pakistan's continued commitment to peace in the region and a peaceful neighbourhood. The foreign secretary was talking to European Union's Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Ambassador Roland Kobia who called on her here on Thursday after arriving on a two-day visit to Islamabad [14-15 March 2019], the Foreign Office said.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the ongoing efforts for peace in Afghanistan. Reiterating Pakistan's continued commitment to peace in the region and a peaceful neighbourhood, Janjua underlined that peace and stability in Afghanistan is crucial for Pakistan. She emphasised that Pakistan has facilitated talks between the US and Taliban in good faith and as part of shared responsibility. She expressed the hope that these talks would lead to intra-Afghan dialogue.
The foreign secretary appreciated the positive role of the EU in Afghanistan and underscored the importance of working with the EU for peace and development in Afghanistan. The EU special envoy emphasised the significance of peace and stability in Afghanistan for the EU as much as for neighbouring countries and in this regard appreciated Pakistan's important contribution towards peace efforts. He added that an opportunity is available that must not be missed at any cost.
