Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has decided to continue protest in Sindh Assembly along with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other opposition members on the issue of chairmanship of Public Accounts Committee in the province. Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, the party's lawmaker, told Business Recorder on Friday that his party was getting along well with the PTI in the center as a coalition partner and would remain a partner in the Sindh Assembly too.
"We don't have any issues with the PTI and will continue to play a positive role as coalition partner," he said, adding that both the parties - MQM-P and PTI - have also got support of Grand Democratic Alliance and Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) against the Pakistan Peoples Party's government in Sindh. The opposition parties in Sindh have been protesting against the PPP government for not giving them the chairmanship of the Public Accounts Committee and vow to continue their protest till their goal is achieved.
The four major opposition parties in Sindh Assembly have collectively 68 members (PTI has 30 members, MQM-P 21, GDA 14 and TLP 3) against PPP's 99 members. The MQM-P lawmaker said the PPP government was violating the tradition of allocation of the PAC chairmanship to the opposition, fearing that this would expose their billions of rupee corruption under the guise of development in the province.
He said that it is the job of the PAC to discuss the audit objections on different government departments and recover the looted money. "If they have not done anything wrong, why are they not allocating the PAC chairmanship to the opposition," he asked.
He said the PPP has been nominating its own party members for the PAC chairmanship to protect their corruption and that is why the media has never heard of any audit objections in Sindh government departments. "All opposition parties in Sindh are on the same page and will continue disrupting the assembly session until the issue is resolved," he said.
About allocation of development funds for Karachi and Hyderabad as promised by the PTI government, he said that the required paper work for different projects including provision of water and circular railways, was almost complete and funds would also be released in due course.
