The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had banned the use of polythene shopping bags and has announced heavy financial penalty on the violators of the ban. This has been disclosed by the KP Minister for Information, Shaukat Ali Yousafzai while talking to media. In case of the finding of polythene shopping bags, the shopkeeper concerned would face a heavy penalty from Rs.50, 000/- to Rs.5.00 million.
For the purpose, the last provincial government had constituted a committee under his chairmanship that had recommended ban on polythene shopping bags in the year 2016. But, on the request of the local trading community, the deadline for imposition of ban was extended. However, the provincial government has now decided to impose ban on all anti-environment shopping bags.
