Expressing concern over the health of Nawaz Sharif, who is incarcerated at Kot Lakhpat prison in the Al-Aziza Steel Mills case, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday said the government is not taking Nawaz Sharif's health issues seriously. Talking to media outside the accountability court, here on Saturday, Shahbaz maintained that Nawaz Sharif is not well and the government is showing carelessness in this regard.
"Nawaz Sharif underwent open heart surgery a year and a half ago," Shahbaz said, adding: "The government will be responsible if something happens to the former prime minister." Responding to a question about the recent unanimously-passed legislation in the Punjab Assembly about increasing salaries, perks and privileges of its members, Shahbaz said, he never took any allowances as chief minister.
"The allowances approved by the Punjab Assembly are beyond my understanding," he said. Shahbaz said that as the chief minister he used his private car for commute. "I did not use government money for health expenses and neither did I take a single day's pay in my 10 years as Punjab chief minister. I paid for all expenses out of my own pockets," he said.
The PML-N president said his conscience was clear and he knew he was not guilty of any corruption, which was why he had trusted the judicial system of country. Moreover, the PML-N leader and Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz told reporters that his party is a responsible entity which always gives preference to national interests.
