Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has said it is the first time in the history that Karachi is hosting the longest mega event series Pakistan Super League (PSL)-4.
He said this, reviewing the PSL final match arrangements at a meeting held at the CM House on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Minister Local Government Saeed Ghani, Principal Secretary to the CM Sajid Jamal Abro, Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shahlwani, DC East Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and other concerned officers. It may be recalled that the CM had formed a committee headed by Local Government Minister and comprised of the Commissioner, MD KWSB Asadullah Khan, DC East Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and others as members to oversee PSL related arrangements.
It was ensured that all the debris in and around the National Stadium was removed and the entire area was beautified not only by rehabilitating the greenbelts but also with the help of innovative cut-outs, lighting systems, digital streamers and boards. In this regard, out of the box steps were taken by the District Administration by adhering to the slogans: "I love cricket" and "Karachi: The cricket city."
In order to provide people easy access to the National Stadium to enjoy the matches, six parking lots have been established at Expo Centre, Hakeem Saeed Ground, Ghareeb Nawaz Football Ground, Mangal Bazaar Ground, Federal Urdu Science University and National Coaching Centre (VIP Parking). Just to keep PSL spirit high, each parking lot was named after the teams playing matches in Karachi. Various facilities were provided to assist and facilitate the spectators as well as ensure their safety at these parking lots. They include: Mobile washroom, walkthrough gates along with queue channels covered by sheds; tents and shades for people waiting for shuttles; for drivers accompanying spectators; Medical camps/first aid booths/paramedical staff; sufficient illumination; parking markings for ease of drivers; 40-50 ushers and parking managers; signage and directions; selfie booths and autograph booths for the spectators; CCTV cameras with round-the-clock surveillance through security booth; information booth with officials from the Deputy Commissioner office to assist spectators; availability of cold drinking water, food and beverages for the drivers and teams; a fast and continuous shuttle service carrying spectators to and from the National Stadium. A shuttle service also remains operational within the Expo Centre to carry senior citizens, children and differently-abled spectators from one gate to the other on the day of match.
The SMD screens with special sound systems for the general public, drivers and others to watch matches within the parking lots; marquees with chairs for people watching the matches inside the parking lots; ambulances at every parking lot; sanitation staff to ensure cleanliness of the National Stadium as well as parking lots.
Additionally, metal detectors, under-vehicle searching devices and walkthrough gates have also made available at the disembarking points where the shuttles drop the spectators.
