A large number of vehicles having fictitious Sindh Police number plates are reportedly plying on city's main arteries under the very noose of Sindh police with immunity. This ignorance of Sindh police for letting such vehicles unchecked provides an opportunity for the wrongdoers to execute their ill plans with no fear of apprehension in a city where life returned to normalcy after hectic efforts of law enforcement agencies.
Fortunately, this security negligence of Sindh police did not cost the high voltage cricket event-Pakistan Super League (PSL), which was just concluded in Karachi. The issue is highlighted by the Adviser to Chief Minister for Law Enquiries and Anti-Corruption establishment and Information and Archives Department and communicated his concerns with Sindh Inspector General of Police Dr Kaleem Imam for stiff action.
In response, the Sindh Police chief has issued directives to all AIGs concerned across the Sindh in general and Karachi in particular to kick off 7-day crackdown against such vehicles in coordination with traffic police, with immediate effect. A notification released from AIGP operation office, a copy of which available with Business Recorder said "It has been observed with great concern that there are a number of vehicles witnessed with fictitious Sindh police numbers plates plying on the roads particularly in Karachi. It is believed that these vehicles are left unchecked and considered unsuspicious by the police units patrolling within their respective limits.
Such ignorance provides an opportunity for the criminal to easily roam around for their ulterior motivies. This issue requires appropriate attention and immediate measures to curb tendency of such violation. The IG has also directed the heads of police ranges to intensify patrolling, picketing and snap-checking during the week, and to come up with performance reports of drive conducted at their respective ranges/districts. The IG also asked them to send the report to Central Police Office (CPO). The crackdown will continue till 25 of this month.
