Finance minister Asad Umar is said to have stated that an agreement will soon be reached with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout package. According to him, there has been progress in talks with the Fund and the two sides have managed to bridge the gap between their points of view.
The finance minister was speaking on the eve of IMF new mission chief Ernesto Ramfrez Rigo's visit for introductory meeting with Pakistani authorities.
The PTI government's approach to an IMF bailout has however created an unnecessary controversy. It unfortunately suggests that it is still clueless insofar as country's economy is concerned.
